From Idea to Agent in 4 Hours: How HiFiVent Made Product Choice Seamless [Case Study]

HiFiVent makes modern, customizable air vents that interior designers, contractors, and homeowners love. But with a vast product catalog and technical details that vary from project to project, customers often struggled to choose the right option. By transforming a static buying guide into a conversational AI agent built with Agent.ai, HiFiVent created a 24/7 “virtual assistant” that guides visitors through the decision making process in minutes, reducing repetitive inquiries and freeing up time to focus on growing the business.

The best part? It went from concept to live on the site in under four hours.

Overview

HiFiVent, a startup offering modern, customizable air vents for interior designers, HVAC pros, and general contractors, used Agent.ai to transform a static online buying guide into a conversational AI agent. In just four hours, founder Evan Gouzie replaced a high friction customer experience with an interactive tool that helps customers quickly find the right product—reducing back-and-forth emails, improving sell-through rates, and setting the stage for future automation.

About HiFiVent

HiFiVent’s audience is primarily trade professionals—interior designers, HVAC pros, and general contractors—with a smaller but growing market of individual homeowners. The company differentiates itself with vents that integrate seamlessly into modern architecture, moving beyond the generic plastic or metal options found in big box stores.

Using rapid additive manufacturing, HiFiVent can offer a wide range of custom options at accessible prices. “Everyone likes to customize their house,” says Evan. “If we’re able to offer something custom for a good price, that’s a win.”

The Challenge

While HiFiVent’s large product catalog gave them a competitive edge, it also overwhelmed many potential buyers—especially those outside the HVAC industry. Designers, architects, and contractors each had pieces of the puzzle (budget, style, technical specs) but no one person had all the information to make a confident purchase.

Navigating the catalog often required direct help from HiFiVent, generating repetitive email exchanges and slowing down the sales process. The team needed a scalable way to guide customers without sacrificing personalization. “If a 30-second tool can give someone the answer instead of multiple emails back and forth, that’s obviously a better experience for everyone,” says Evan.

The Solution: Turning the Buying Guide Into an Agent

When AI agents emerged as a viable option, HiFiVent saw an opportunity. Evan wanted a “faster path to a sale” without increasing headcount. So, he converted their existing buying guide content into a conversational agent. The process was straightforward:

  • Time to Build: ~4 hours from idea to launch

  • Approach: Use the buying guide as the conversation blueprint, with light customization for flow and tone

  • Integration: Deployed directly into Shopify via webhook-generated HTML code

“It was minutes to hours in design and deployment—not days or weeks,” says Evan.

Implementation & Integration

The agent lives directly on the HiFiVent website, where it engages visitors in a guided Q&A to narrow down the right product choice. While not yet connected to the company’s CRM, the agent sends submissions via email and is integrated with Shopify’s form system. CRM integration with HubSpot is on the near-term roadmap as lead volume grows.

HiFiVent also added an open ended form question at the end of the agent flow to capture unaddressed customer needs, using this feedback to continuously refine the agent’s prompts.

Results So Far

While it’s still early days, the agent is already delivering operational benefits:

  • Time Savings: The agent reduces repetitive pre-sales inquiries, freeing the founder to focus on growth tasks.

  • Scalability: The agent delays the need for a full time sales hire while the company grows.

  • Optimization Potential: Early data from Google Analytics, plus qualitative feedback, will guide ongoing updates to the agent.

In an industry with long buying cycles, immediate conversions aren’t always the best indicator of success. “We’re in that cycle where somebody might bookmark us and come back months later,” says Evan. “The key is making sure when they’re ready, they have the info they need.”

Lessons Learned

For Evan success came from starting small and moving fast. When asked what advice he'd give someone building their first agent, he offered these pearls of wisdom:

  • Leverage Existing Content: The questions and flow that make up the agent were already in the buying guide—Evan just repurposed them, so no rewriting or restructuring was necessary.

  • Avoid Rabbit Holes: Insider tips from an experienced Agent.ai user helped Evan avoid time-consuming dead ends. Reach out to someone you know using Agent.ai, or join the Agent.ai Community, which is where the builders hang out, trade tips, and give feedback to other agent builders.

  • Think of the Agent as an Employee: “What would you ask an employee to do?" That's how Evan recommends others think about what type of agent would be useful. If there's a task an employee does, but their time should be freed up for something more useful, consider whether you can agentify the task.

Looking Ahead

HiFiVent sees opportunities to expand the agent’s role in the funnel. For now, the focus is on removing complexity for customers and refining the agent’s performance through continuous iteration.

“Without AI, it’d be difficult to do this—make this company—with all the time sinks inherent in running a business,” says Evan. “AI isn’t replacing jobs; it’s buying me enough time to grow so I can hire.”

Key Takeaways

  • Speed: From concept to live agent in under 4 hours.

  • Low Lift, High Impact: Repurposed an existing buying guide for immediate value.

  • Future-Ready: Built on a stable platform, ready for CRM integration and further automation.
